Bringing Learning to Life Through Experiences
At Hillyfield, we value enrichment that enhances pupil knowledge and skills. Through a wide range of enriching trips and visits, our pupils engage with the world around them, making meaningful connections to their studies while developing confidence, curiosity, and cultural awareness.
From their early years, children explore their local environment with walks to the shop, postbox and Walthamstow Market. As they progress, their experiences broaden—visiting places of worship, historical landmarks, museums, theatres, and even taking part in hands-on workshops. Whether it’s a Viking adventure, a science discovery, or a West End theatre performance, each trip is carefully chosen to inspire and educate.

Residential Programme
At Hillyfield, our carefully structured residential programme provides pupils with a gradual progression of experiences that foster independence, resilience and teamwork.
It begins in Year 2 with a late afterschool event and movie night, helping our youngest participants build confidence in a familiar setting.
In Year 3, pupils take the next step with an exciting sleepover at school, learning to manage routines away from home.
By Year 4, they experience their first night away at Gilwell Park, where outdoor activities encourage problem-solving and collaboration.
In Year 5, a full-day adventure, including high ropes challenges, prepares them for the ultimate test of independence—a two-night residential trip in Year 6 at Stubbers Adventure Centre or another local outdoor venue.
This progression ensures that by the time pupils leave Hillyfield, they have developed the confidence, resilience and teamwork skills needed for future challenges. Our aim is for all pupils to be involved in each stage and we endeavour to support parents so that this can happen.
