Educational Philosophy & Vision

Hillyfield is a unique place of learning. It is forged around a deep care for children’s safety and wellbeing and the provision for an holistic approach to education. Our philosophy supports a child’s personal and social development and academic achievement with extensive opportunities to experience creative approaches within a broad, balanced and enriched curriculum. We want Hillyfield children to harness the Knowledge, Skills, Experiences and Attributes (KSEA) that shape confident, well-rounded, resilient and hard-working individuals. Through our full curriculum offer and personal development programme, children have access to high quality teaching, specialist teaching and creative approaches so that they can articulate their brilliance and feel proud of themselves. The quality of our curriculum is very closely connected to the quality of our teaching and embedded in the opportunities we provide for professional learning and development.

We believe that every child has a ‘brilliance’, something about them which is special and unique. A child’s ‘brilliance’ can take many forms e.g. being exceptionally empathetic, an innovator, a musician, an athlete, a performer, a scientist etc. In partnership with parents, we take on the responsibility to make sure each child’s brilliance is nurtured and developed so that by the time they leave Hillyfield, they will feel valued, experience a positive sense of achievement and will be fully prepared for learning at secondary school and beyond. 

Our values, expectations and behaviours are very important to us. They provide the foundations for the way we conduct ourselves and the actions we take in developing a strong learning culture and high performing team. They embed a fierce drive to cherish identity, celebrate diversity and ensure inclusion and equality for all of us. Our drive for ‘excellence’ enables each child to reach their full potential.
