Curriculum Aims & Design
Curriculum Aims
Our curriculum is constantly evolving and developing towards achieving its 4 priority aims:
1. EQUITY: to provide the equity of knowledge, Skills, Experiences and Attributes (KSEA) through a broad, balanced and enriched curriculum that meets the holistic needs of our diverse multicultural and multifaith community;
2: PUPIL VOICE: to develop independence, confidence, responsibility and the reasoning skills for informed decision making through an enabling pupil voice;
3. MAXIMISE POTENTIAL: to maximise our pupils' full personal and academic potential through high expectations, ambition and positive attitudes to learning;
4. CREATIVE ENGAGEMENT: to inspire our pupils through meaningful creative engagement in learning and the transformative power of the arts.
Curriculum Design
Our full school curriculum design is based on a subject-centred progression model that enables cross-curricular links where they naturally occur. Our curriculum supports our holistic approach and developes knowledge, skills, experiences and attributes (KSEA) through sequenced learning journeys that build on previous learning and make future connections:
- K: that Knowledge (content) is ambitious for our pupils, well-spaced for longer term and deeper learning and connected (inter-leaved) across a range of subjects;
- S: that Skills are first acquired, developed and then applied in a range of contexts;
- E: that pupils' Experiences arise through thinking, feeling and doing;
- A: that pupils develop the Attributes for a learning life.
Our curriculum is intrinsically linked to our high quality Teaching, Learning and Assessment. We aim to take our planned, intended and developing curriculum and teach it through creative and interesting activities. In order to meet our overall curriculum aims outlined above, we also promote, encourage and foster:
-
the development of oracy & reading skills;
-
the development of accurate and precise use of vocabulary to articulate thoughts and ideas and express opinions;
-
independent thinking through enquiry, immersion activities & problem solving;
-
the intrinsic value of hard work in achieving dreams and goals;
-
the building of confidence to try new things and meet new people.
