At Hillyfield, the purpose of our Pupil Leadership programme is to create a bridge between the classroom and the wider school community. Through teamwork and collaboration, we develop leadership skills in our children and build confidence and opportunities for pupil-voice and purposeful engagement.
Our programme is split into three key strands:
-
House Captains and Deputies in Year 6
-
Student Curriculum Leaders in Years 5 and 6
-
School Council in Years 1 to 6.
Our House System was designed to create a greater cross-site community through mix days and other whole-school events whilst creating role models in student leadership roles. Pupils are voted for by their peers and show great promise in driving our Shared Values (GREAT) and Expectations (ABCDE).
The purpose of our Pupil Curriculum Leaders is to create a clear path for Pupil Voice within our curriculum from pupils who are, or will become, experts in their subject, by supporting the growth and monitoring of their subject.
Finally, we introduced a School Council to give our children a starting point into Leadership from a younger age. The School Council is there to gain pupil-voice on topical issues linked to the holistic experience at Hillyfield, for example: anti-bullying, the playground, the dinner hall, etc. We have also created a link between our School Council and Parent Support Association (PSA) in order to use pupil voice to create and guide purposeful events and fundraisers within our wider school community.
